In March 2022, domestic stainless steel imports were about 240,000 tons, down 81,400 tons, down 25.3%; The year-on-year increase was 36,200 tons, or 17.8%. Imports from Indonesia fell by 89,000 tonnes from February, mainly due to a drop in imports.

From January to March in 2022, the cumulative import volume of domestic stainless steel was about 944,900 tons, with a year-on-year increase of 308,000 tons or 48.35%.

2. In March 2022, China domestic exports of stainless steel increased by 34.8%

In March 2022, the domestic exports of stainless steel were about 379,800 tons, an increase of 98,000 tons or 34.8%; It increased by 51,000 tons or 15.5% year on year.

From January to March in 2022, the cumulative volume of domestic stainless steel exports was about 1.062,200 tons, 136,800 tons more than last year, an increase of 14.79%. The cumulative net export volume was about 117,300 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 171,100 tons or 59.34%.

3. Net exports rebounded in March 2022

Net exports in March were about 139,800 tons, which returned to normal after imports exceeded exports in February, increasing by 11.8% year on year.

From January to March 2022, the cumulative net export volume of domestic stainless steel was about 117,300 tons, with a year-on-year decrease of 171,100 tons, or 59.34%.

4.Top five import regions

China domestic stainless steel imports are concentrated in Indonesia, Japan and South Korea. In March 2022, the amount of imports from the three places was 221,200 tons, accounting for 92.19% of the total domestic imports. The total volume of the top five regions is about 228,600 tons, accounting for 95.28% of the total domestic imports.

In the first three months of 2022, imports from the three regions totaled about 894,100 tons, accounting for 94.62 percent of the total domestic imports. The total volume of the top five regions is about 912,900 tons, accounting for 96.61% of the total domestic imports.

In March 2022, China imported 194,300 tons of stainless steel from Indonesia, down 88,700 tons, down 31.35%; Year-on-year increase of 44,200 tons, 29.43%.

Among them, hot rolling volume of about 9,800 tons, a decrease of 310 tons, a decrease of 3.06%; A year-on-year increase of 601,000 tons, an increase of 164.2%;

The cold rolling volume was about 62,300 tons, decreasing by 29,200 tons or 31.87%. Year-on-year decrease of 32,200 tons, a decrease of 34.05%;

The volume of other semi-manufactured products was about 122,100 tons, a decrease of 59,300 tons, or 32.67%; The year-on-year increase was 70,300 tons, an increase of 135.39%. (The amount of Indonesian slab returned to China in March was 40,000 tons (mostly for processing with imported materials), increasing by 9,500 tons, or 31.2%, compared with 0 in the same period last year. Among them, imported hot rolling totaled about 39,100 tons, an increase of 29,500 tons year-on-year or 307.4%; The total imported cold rolling was about 269,800 tons, with a year-on-year increase of 32,000 tons and 13.45%; The total import of semi-finished steel billets was about 503,600 tons (the Chinese billet volume was about 384,000 tons and the slab volume was about 119,700 tons), an increase of 253,100 tons year-on-year or 101.03%.

5.Top 10 export regions

In March 2022, the export volume of the top ten regions in mainland China was about 249,100 tons, accounting for about 65.59%, accounting for all the decrease compared with February; From January to March, the accumulative volume was about 662,200 tons, accounting for about 62.34%.

Due to the impact of the February holiday, part of the delivery delay, the export volume in March is also greatly increased. Among them, the amount of stainless steel exported to Italy reached a new high of 47,900 tons in nearly six years, increasing by 63.5% on a monthly basis and 935.58% on a year-on-year basis.
